  >>> =========================================================== <<<
  >> Hohauser-Thatcher Win Boosts Greens' Elected Official Count <<
  >> in State to 3; Ticket-Mate Beth D'Anna Is Top Vote-Getter <<

WHO: Melissa Hohauser-Thatcher and Beth D'Anna -- two new
members of the Ferndale Public Schools Board of
Education, elected in a high-turnout race June 9 to
four-year terms on the Board. They ran on a ticket
supported by the Green House, a Ferndale institution
promoting the Green Party of Michigan (GPMI).
They may be joined at the meeting by their ticket-mate
Karen Ballard -- who narrowly lost her race for a
one-year term on the Board, falling nine votes short
of a clean sweep for the ticket -- and other Green
             officials and activists.

WHAT: Hohauser-Thatcher and D'Anna will be sworn in and take
their seats on the board at the meeting. When sworn
in, Hohauser-Thatcher will join Charlevoix County
Drain Commissioner JoAnne Beemon and Mount Pleasant
City Commissioner Jim Moreno and become the third GPMI
member elected to public office. D'Anna ran on the
Green House ticket with Hohauser-Thatcher and Ballard,
but is not a GPMI member.

WHEN: The meeting is scheduled to start at 7pm Tuesday, July 1.

WHERE: The meeting is to be held in the Media Center of Harding
Administration Center, 2920 Burdette (just north of
Woodward Heights and west of Hilton).

WHY: Terms for school-board members start in July after the
June school election. A re-organization of the board
and an orientation for new members are needed at least
potentially every year between the June election and
the July regular meeting. D'Anna and Hohauser-Thatcher
must be sworn in to take the place of two departing
school-board members, and will serve until June 2007.

The Green Party of Michigan was formed in 1987 to address environmental
issues in Michigan politics. There are Greens organized in all 50 states
and the District of Columbia. Each state Green Party sets its own goals
and creates its own structure, but US Greens agree on Ten Key Values:

        Ecological Wisdom * Grassroots Democracy
        Social Justice * Nonviolence
        Community Economics * Decentralization
