Green Party of Michigan State Membership Meeting May 18 & 19 (9am - 9pm Saturday & 9:30am - 3pm Sunday) Where: Camp Niobe 4850 Mill Road Dryden, MI 48248 (halfway between Flint and Port Huron, just a few miles from the M-24 exit from I-75) large area map locating Camp Niobe with respect to major highways in the SE corner of Michigan; or a detail map showing the roads in the immediate vicinity of Camp Niobe. Camp Niobe is located in the very south of Lapeer County. It is within just a few miles of both Macomb and Oakland counties, and is relatively near Genessee and Wayne counties. The camp is located south of Dryden Road, between Rochester Road and the "extension" of Van Dyke. Both Rochester and Van Dyke are State highways. Camp Niobe has lovely 80 acre grounds, cabins which sleep 50 in bunk beds, a lodge/dining room, and an Arts and Crafts building which is suitable for plenary meetings or larger presentations. The private lake on the grounds is drained by a creek which empties into the Belle River. There is a primitive but functional outdoor "theatre," which includes bench seating. There is also woodland, picnic sites, and a cleared field suitable both for recreation and outdoor camping. Seven Ponds Nature Center, operated by the Audobon Society, is quite near. I could say much more. Suffice it to say it should be a wonderful venue for the meeting. At our recent meeting, the West Oakland Watershed Greens voted to invite Ingrid Betancourt to address the State meeting. Ingrid is the Greens candidate for President of Colombia who was kidnapped 3 weeks ago. The idea of the invitation was to express solidarity, and provide an organizing "vehicle." At the time this is being written, Doug had received about 15 such items. (None of them had been forwarded to us at time of last tentative agenda dated May 7). Two or three concern the "expulsion" bylaw. This will likely take some time to work through. Proponents of at least some of the others are considering withdrawing their matters, or submitting to the SCC for resolution. Our current assessment is that if all motions, resolutions, and "brief" presentations which have been submitted to Doug actually proceed, they could require up to 4 hours of plenary to resolve. The agenda proposed above "slots" about 2 hours for such matters. Please keep in mind that we have invited guests for both Saturday morning and afternoon to participate in, or facilitate, sessions. We have about 40 registrations already! See you all soon.
