State Nominating Convention 2006
The 2006 GPMI State Nominating convention will be held on Saturday, August 5 and Sunday, August 6, at the Township Hall, 7315 West Beard Road, Shaftsburg, MI 48872. It holds 110 and costs $110 a day with a $50 deposit returned if everything is in place and fairly clean afterwards. The general location can be described as "out in the country" 13 miles ENE of downtown Lansing, a mile or so south of I-69.
Going east on I-69 from Lansing, take exit 98. Turn right (south) on Woodbury Road for only 100 yards or so, then turn left (headed east) on Route 78 (Lansing Road). Lansing Road runs parallel to I-69. After 1.5 miles on Rte. 78, bear right onto Beard Road, and continue for another 1.4 miles to the township hall. If you get to Shaftsburg Road, you have gone past the hall.
Going west on I-69 from Flint, take exit 105. Go Left (south) on Route 52, for 2.7 miles to Beard Road. Turn right (west). The township hall will be another 3.5 miles west on W. Beard Road from this intersection. You'll cross Shaftsburg Road at the 3.3-mile mark, and the meeting will be just another 0.2 miles past Shaftsburg Road.
Coming from Detroit, you can get off I-96 at exit 122, and follow route 52 north for 10.6 miles to West Beard Road. You will turn left (west) on Beard Road, and as above, continue another 3.5 miles to the township hall.

The hall has a kitchen available for our use. If there are volunteers who wish to cook lunch for the two days of the convention, please contact me (Meeting Manager Art Myatt, almyatt@earthlink.net or 248-548-6175). Otherwise, we can have someone pick up carry-out from a local restaurant.
The main business of this convention is selecting all GPMI candidates not nominated at independent county caucuses prior to the convention. People seeking to become GPMI candidates for local partisan offices in counties not having an independent caucus may be nominated at this convention. Caucusing at the convention is an option for counties not having a previous caucus. Candidates for statewide offices and federal offices will also be nominated at this convention. After this convention is over, there will be no additional GPMI candidates for the 2006 general election.
People seeking to become candidates of the GPMI at this convention are strongly advised to write out their response to the GPMI candidate vetting questionnaire and send the response to Meeting Manager Art Myatt, either via email or to the following address: 50 Woodward Heights, Pleasant Ridge, MI, and/or to Elections Coordinator John LaPietra no later than one week before the date of the convention. Responses will be printed out and distributed at the convention. Prospective candidates who have not bothered to respond to the questionnaire are less likely to be accepted by the convention than those who have responded.
